Lift coefficient estimation for a rapidly pitching airfoil

We develop a method for estimating the instantaneous lift coefficient on rapidly pitching airfoil that uses small number of pressure sensors and measurement angle attack. The approach assimilates four surface measurements with modified nonlinear state space model (Goman-Khrabrov model) through Kalman filter. error estimates based only weighted-sum measured pressures are found to be noisy biased, which leads inaccurate estimates. estimate is improved by including predictive in an conventional Goman-Khrabrov shown linear parameter-varying system can therefore used filter without need linearization. Additional improvement realized modifying algorithm provide more accurate coefficient. filtering results bias-free precise than either pressure-based or their own. new will enable performance enhancements aerodynamic systems whose relies lift.
